Catellus letter from neighborhood reps
June 14, 2001
Monterey City Council
Monterey, CA 93940
Dear Council Members,
A group of community leaders convened on Wednesday, June 6, 2001 to consider the Catellus Site Plan. The following are our recommendations for Catellus Site and surrounding area. There was 100% consensus on all of the following recommendations. We urge you to take these recommendations in your deliberations regarding the Catellus properties.
- The Catellus properties (east and west) should be part of a Master Plan that integrates Monterey Bay Park Master Plan, Harbor Master Plan, Coastal Land Use Plan, and Del Monte Widening Tentative Maps.
- The historic train depot remains at the present location on the west parcel and on its present foundations.
- All existing buildings on the east parcel be removed.
- Provide dry boat storage for yacht club.
- Provide area for fishnet repair
- Provide outdoor showers
- No new stand alone buildings just for food
- Adventures by the Sea relocates.
- We feel that it would be reasonable for the City put out to bid any commercial contracted use of public held coastal lands.
- Visitor Center be constructed in future parking area between Sloat and Park on the bay side with strong consideration to be given to extending Camino Aquajito north of Del Monte and curving over to Park and closing Park to Del Monte. The recreation trail to be located on the bay side of the roadway extension.
- The only new building to be constructed on the East Parcel could be a small building adjacent Camino El Estero parking lot in conjunction with the previously approved rest room.
- Kayak and outrigger storage should be considered within fence near Camino El Estero parking lot.
- Suggest Kayak sales be relocated.
- Royal Sea Foods remain on west parcel.
- No new driveways on Del Monte west of Figueroa.
- Relocate proposed location of parking Kiosk.
Thank you for your consideration,
Liz Leeper
